The Cuasimodo Festival (La Fiesta de Cuasimodo) is an annual colorful Catholic tradition that celebrates the faith and the devotion of the Chilean people. It happens in different locations throughout Chile but is stronger in the Central Valley (and especially in the urban areas around Santiago). This celebration takes place in the following Sunday after Easter and is a colonial tradition that has continued until today. Horseback riders followed the priest to protect him from thieves when he was going from town to town to give the Eucharist to those who couldn't get to church (such as sick and elderly people). Nowadays, this is a day-long religious celebration that includes a mass and a huge procession with a priest being followed by decorated bicycles, cars, horse-drawn carts, horses and thousands of people.
