The Parintins Folkloric Festival (Festival Folclórico de Parintins) is one of the major regional festivals in Brazil and the largest folklore event of Latin America. It is an annual open-air event held in Parintins every last weekend of June. The festival main attraction is the battle of two "bois-bumbás" (also called "bumba-meu-boi") that fight in the arena called Bumbódromo. There are two associations (teams), the "Boi Garantido" (represented by the red color) and the "Boi Caprichoso (represented by the color blue). In the days of presentation both associations tell a story. The audience listens and participates actively. The plot of the story reenactment varies slightly, but the central theme is the death and resurrection of an ox. This festival is an explosion of culture and shows many regional themes such as legends, indigenous rituals and " ribeirinhos " habits (the habits of the people who live at the riverbank).
